The Newtown Sports & Social Club.

The first site for the Newtown Social club was situated on the corner of Newtown Avenue and Chichester Road – Bognor Regis.

In addition to this building a facility of a cricket and tennis pavilion were maintained at the present site of the Club. The original Club buildings was closed in 1937 and was moved to the Cricket and Tennis pavilion site, where it remains today.

It wasn’t until 1947 – ten years after their relocation -when the Club obtained the freehold property and grounds were purchased by the Members. The first building extension took place in 1952 with an enlargement of the Club House to improve the facilities to the then 200 strong membership.

The snooker room was built in1964 and the Tennis Courts were replaced by a car park in the same year. In 1969 a larger bar was built following a further increase in membership and plans were put in place for the building of the existing building which was completed in May 1972.

Following extensive refurbishments throughout the period 1992 to 1997 an extension housing 2 pool tables was officially opened in 1998. In 2003 air conditioning was installed through the Club.

A small portion of the original slated pitched club house roof can still be seen from the front of the Club.
